Oct 30, 2017 The BIG Day!!! Yaay!
Oct 30, 2017
Chris and I woke up the next morning, bright and early to find our way to the Alternative Limb Project Studios.
I was really none the worse for wear from my broken nose ordeal. I was uncomfortable and perhaps a little shooken up still from the fall but otherwise good! My glasses are covering up the bruising that was silently creeping over my eye socket and nose so that was good as far as I was concerned!
We took the underground, then a train and after about an hour or so of travel, arrived at Sophies studios around about 1/2 an hour before we had scheduled our arrival.
The studios were as I had expected…unassuming but highly functional..like a true artists studio!
Meeting Sophie was exactly as I pictured it would be. She was as grounded and sweet and professional and creative as I had expected.
Jason the fellow who is doing the 3-d printing part was there as well…as was Riina who is working on the “leather-crafting” portion of some of the fingers.
We are actually working on two sets of fingers each with their own specificity:
For this initial visit to London we need to take casts of my hands so that Sophie can begin the process of creating a support that fits snuggly.
Jason needed to 3-d scan my hands so that he can create some of the mechanisms for moveable joints in the fingers.
And of course Sophie, Jason and Riina all need to be working together collaboratively as the process unfolds. Such is the nature of innovation and creative design. So much excitement!
Our next planned trip/ Trip Number 2 will be sometime in Mid February or March 2018.
“An exciting and great start to the beginning of the creation of the dream….”
